It is easy to register a radio station in Uganda because Uganda is one of the African countries where media has been liberalized.
To register a radio station in Uganda you should follow the following steps;
Step 1: Write to the Uganda Communications commission- UCC applying for the license.
The procedure is that the radio owner must make an application in writing for consideration by the licensing team at the Uganda communications commission. The application must indicate where you want to locate the radio station and the type of content that you want to broadcast. Content type may be Music, News, education, Religious, etc.
Step 2: The UCC will then study your application to find an available spectrum for the geographical area where you want to locate your radio station. If the spectrum is available them they will reserve it for you. A spectrum is an FM frequency to be allocated to you. In Uganda, FM frequencies are between 87.5 to 108 MHz
Step 3: Complete the application process. This process requires that your application requirement is completed in the allocated time and that you accept all the permissible parameters.
Step 4: Pay the fees required. Uganda communication commission will give you an invoice which you will be required to pay from any bank in Uganda.
Step 5: Submit your company documents. These documents include the following;
- A certificate of incorporation
- Registered Memorandum and Articles of Association
- A business plan for your radio
- A financial statement
- A tax clearance certificate
- Technical information of your equipment
